Daniel Theisen holds a PhD in Rehabilitation Sciences from the UCLouvain, Belgium, where he took on a position of assistant professor as of 2000. In 2007, Dr Theisen joined the Luxembourg Institute of Health to develop new research activities into sports medicine and rehabilitation science. He has had several academic appointments in Luxembourg, Belgium, Switzerland and Chile, and has a record of over 100 scientific contributions as peer-reviewed articles and book chapters. Since 2019 he has been the director of ALAN – Maladies Rares Luxembourg, a non-profit organisation for patients living with a rare disease.
